Kumba enriches the lives of South Africans by delivering superior quality iron ore to the international market in a sustainable manner. It is part of the global Anglo American plc group of companies. Kumba is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (KIO). The company produced 41,3Mt of ore in 2011, and plans to produce 52Mt per annum by 2013. Kumba’s operations are situated at Sishen, Thabazimbi and Kolomela mines, with its head office in Pretoria, South Africa. Kumba’s staff numbered 6 303 permanent employees and 5 595 contractors at the end of 2011. Kumba invests over 4,4% of its payroll on training and upskilling its people. Its empowerment status is 26,1% equity by ownership in Sishen Iron Ore Company (SIOC). Total investment in LED and CSI projects in 2011 was R184,9 million. Its safety record in 2011: reflected a Lost-Time Injury Frequency Rate of 0,08 with no fatalities.
