Winners of the Kumba road safety poster competition announced

Learners from primary and high schools in Kuruman, Northern Cape, have made a meaningful contribution to creating awareness about road safety and won great prizes for themselves and their schools in a poster competition sponsored by Anglo American business unit, Kumba Iron Ore and the Road Safety Management Corporation
The primary school winner, Bokhutlo Sesinyi from Mahikaneng Primary School and the high school winner, Thabang Segula from Rekgaratlhile High School, each won a Wifi 7 inch tablet and a folio case.
Thanks to these talented learners, Mahikaneng Primary School and Rekgaratlhile High School each received a computer package consisting of a pull-down screen, laptop bag, printing paper, projector, stereo speakers, Microsoft Office 2013 with a tutorial and antivirus protection, 100 compact disks, power surge protection, a laptop and a printer with extra toner.
The competition was held in response to the request of the Minister of Transport recently to help achieve the department’s goal to halve the number of people killed on South African roads.
Johan van Schalkwayk, general manager of Kumba’s Sishen mine, congratulated the learners who entered the poster competition that would contribute to safer roads in Kuruman.
“As a mining company, safety is of great importance to us and we believe that sharing this principle with our communities will continue to benefit many people. This is why we chose to participate in this initiative. We all understand the importance of road safety and the winners clearly stood out in terms of the impact their posters had on promoting positive safety behaviour.”
